I work with this guy, named Terry. Terry is a black man from Louisiana and he has a great cajun accent. He can tell a story like you wouldnt believe and damn, this man has lived...hes about 60 and this shitty security job and Auto Zone are his only source of income-also he'll take a side job during work if it pays (but dont tell anyone )....He will probably work for the rest of his life until he dies. He's a great guy, I like Terry, he's a hard man but he's fair.
But he also sees things differently from me. Things at our post arent always fair, there are 3 positions and the front, which could be considered the "main" post, doesnt have a black guard who watches it...where I see that as a case of simply filling the post with the next body they can get, Terry see it as racist. This distresses me because does it mean that Terry is jadded or that Im naive? Is it a result of Terrys experience or my innocences?
Im not an idealist, I dont believe world peace is possible, but I hate bigotry and racism almost more then anything (tie up Klansmen and Skinheads and burn them on their crosses and Ill be the first to dance around the pyre)
How are we all to work towards a common goal of "racial harmony" when 2 groups see the same situation differently?
Bah "Racial Harmony" next I want everyone to lock arms and sing "Kumebaya"
