I thought it was about time to have another blog entry, becasue my last was almost a month ago, so for lack of a better idea - here is my english assignment...
Beauty is a very comparative topic; people and things that are beautiful to me, may not be beautiful to my neighbour. So in essence, everything is beautiful because everything is relative. In terms of a person's external self being beautiful or apparently lacking of this trait, I do not think that being socially beautiful gives any more worth or value to person's life. It is discouraging that society and the media puts a social pressure on people to meet ridiculous visual standards, because what lives in one's heart is what will make the difference in the world. Having an intelligent mind and compassionate morals are what cures cancer and saves the rainforest. Making a significant differences like these are what generations to come will actually see and benefit fromnot how many chemical peels and lip injections a person had during their life time.
Beauty is a trap for this reason. As much as everyone would love to declare that society's principles do not affect them, we all know that when we brush our hair and put on mascara, we are giving into that image. We want to reject the idea of conformation, but we are trapped beneath what everyone else is going to think. It is a violent cycle that can have destructive effects on a person's self image and self esteem. This unhealthy practice is a losing situation all around because people are reaching for something that is not only truly unattainable, but relatively useless.<3
