Hey everyone!
I just got back from an amazing trip upstate. I rented an adorable little Airbnb for a city getaway with a friend last week. I used the opportunity to shoot my first ever self shot Suicide Girls photoset for the #selfshotsummercamp competition happening next month!
As my first self shot set it’s easy to say I was quite nervous, but the location was so good that it really was just up to me to find the perfect spot and just get it done.
I decided to go with a cosplay theme for my set because I love American Horror Story and the newest season 1984 was so good! If you haven’t seen it, I highly suggest watching. The costuming is on point.. and I love a good slasher! It really hits the true 80s slasher vibes on the nose, in my opinion. Plus, once you watch it you’ll be even more excited to see what I shot!
My biggest feat was picking where I wanted to shoot. The Airbnb had an entire private area with a pond, paddle boat, lounge area, fire pit, badminton court, plenty of flower fields, and this amazing wooden walkway out over the water! Although, it was really old and wobbly I don’t think it was the most secure. Still really cool to adventure on, I put a little clip below for you to see!
This is the view on the water when you reach the very end of the wooden planks. I would have loved to shoot some content on the water but as I said, it wasn’t very stable. I didn’t want to risk dropping my camera or phone into the pond.
Overall, shooting my set took about 3 hours. It took a lot of patience and self-love. I used the dock as my set location because it had the best lighting! Plus, I wore a bikini so it only made sense to be close to the water.
☝🏻Here is an outtake from the set!! I’ll post more previews soon, but this picture is one of my favorites that didn’t make it into the final edits. I really got the perfect Golden Hour light where the greenery was illuminated around me. I am beyond ecstatic for you to see this set!
I’m going to start shooting and practicing more. I want to be confident enough to shoot sets for SG regularly. I do love being behind the camera and I think it will be another amazing way to contribute to my favorite community.
