Dear SG journal readers
My father died six weeks ago now. He was being ill since very, very long. The most diligent readers among you may remember I already wrote about him long ago. In my opinion, he was the bestest of the bestest dads ever (I know, Luke Skywalker used to think the same about his dad, but anyway).
So it may take some...

As nothing totally worthy of interest is currently happening, this update will be about an interview with Russian novelist Viktor Pelevin I just read in a French magazine and that made me grin for some reason; near to considerations on the survival of dead empires as zombie-like entities of pantagruelian size and on the exercise in creativity that is reading comics written in a foreign...

The story so far, for those of you, dear friends, who didn't already read about it: I can't be - by far - as active on SG as I used to, because last year I left the small artist studio I was living in -ideally suited as it was for the nerd I am, with a huge, old-fashioned Macintosh, internet access and stuff - and...

good to have ya back, eh?

(I've been away for roughly the lifespan of a howler monkey myself, & I'm guessing that my future activities will be no less erratic)

(recently, DSL has been offered in the backwoods enclave where I sit, oiling my rifle & muttering darkly, for cheaper than I've been paying for my poky dial-up, & yet I demure, & yet I hesitate. reason being that it requires a year of commitment.. realistically, I'll probably be here for that long but idealistically, I'm outta here next week)

anyway, hope all is well, & I'll get Correspondence off eventually.

yrs,

I'm back... sort of.

First things first: I hope everyone is doing well! I missed you all (especially you, you and you, you know who you are. Yes, you too)

Second: unfortunately the problems that kept me away for long are still (mostly) unsolved, so I won't be extremely active here in SG world... if you drop me a line, accept my apologies for not...

Published exactly30 years ago, Alexander Solzhenitsyn's The Gulag Archipelago offers some lines echoing strangely to some current events:

If only things were so simple: it there were some dark places where men with dark souls were committing dark deeds; if the only thing to do was learning to know these men from others, and then suppressing them! But the line parting good from evil parts...

from where I sit, it's always the year of the Rat.

as far as monkeys go, I try not to dwell upon the resemblance between our current president & a certain other George, noted for his curiousity...
