85. Come And Knock On Our Door...
Pris pushed the doorbell to Shauna's front doors for a third time. She held the recorded ping out for a long time, jamming her finger on the button. She removed her finger and prepared it for a fourth longer jab when the door whipped open to reveal the half-naked torso of Theo Theocrat.
"What?" he said, his voice, clothes, and hair a wreck.
"Where's Shauna?" Pris asked the man narrowly.
"Inside."
Pris pushed past the now leaning against the door frame Theo. She barged into the front hallway shouting, "Shauna!"
The short brunette by that name walked out onto the third floor landing of her spiral staircase. "What?" she asked from atop the steel balcony.
"What's with the monosyllabics?" Pris muttered to herself.
"What?!" the starlet's voice raised into another register.
"I did it!" Pris announced suddenly.
"What?" Theo and Shauna said from their contrasting positions. Pris cast a sidelong glance at Theo and answered her friend, who had begun to descend the staircase.
"I got everyone who was in the room together tonight."
"You did?" Shauna asked rhetorically. "Where?" she asked, meaning it.
"The Red Cafe."
"In the Mid Quad?" Shauna asked.
"Yeah," Pris answered, the obviousness of the answer apparent to her.
"Ew," proclaimed Theo as he crossed to the kitchen door. He placed his hand daintily on his chest, exhaled heavily, and rolled his eyes. Pris and Shauna, now standing side by side, simply glared at him. He exited.
"How do you put up with that?" Pris asked earnestly.
"It's Theo," Shauna said tenderly.
"Fucking hell."
"Come sit," Shauna said as she walked towards the living room. The two walked to the large, heavily windowed living room. They sat on a large overstuffed couch. "What happened?" the diminutive starlet asked.
"I gave them the printouts, they read them, we talked, we ate."
"And?" Shauna asked after a lengthy pause.
"And that's it. For this time. We meet again, tomorrow night."
"Where?"
"You ladies want coffee?" came Theo's gratingly loud voice.
"Yes," the two answered in loud stereo. They looked at each other and smiled. It was nearly ten at night.
"It's Theo,' Shauna said simply.
"Here," said Pris incongruously.
"What?" asked Shauna, rolling her eyes at having to say the word yet again.
"We're all meeting here," Pris clarified.
"Wha-," Shauna began, then stopped herself from saying it, biting her lip. "When?" she slid into, a forced smile on her face.
"Tomorrow night, seven PM," Pris answered.
"Ah," was Shauna's reply.
"It'll be about five minutes," Theo said, his voice going from shout to normal as he walked from the kitchen.
"Thanks Theo," Pris said.
"You're welcome, Ms. Tyler," Theo said, dramatic surprise tainting his voice.
"Theo, we're having company tomorrow," Shauna said.
"How many?" Theo asked, his voice becoming professional.
"Twenty-five," Pris answered.
"Oh," said Theo, unimpressed, "a small gathering."
"Twenty-five women," Pris clarified.
Theo's eyes widened. "Oh my," he breathed.
"Theo," Shauna said warningly.
"Darling," Theo said, raising his hand defensively.
"Fucking hell," said Pris.
