Back on track:
What better way to celebrate the founding of a "more perfect union" (wow, that's not a phrase that comes up too often these day, huh?) than writing about a dance competition show? Or, more specifically, the hawt laydeez on that show.
First of all: fucking yaay! I'm not usually so down on dancers after the first two weeks, but she had to go. I'm glad (most) of the judges saw that. I often agree with Nigel, but keeping Kourtni around would have been a mistake. She even spelled her name in an annoying fashion. On the other hand: Sorry, dude. He's a good dancer, but he never really transcended. And that hip hop routine was awful.
Have to give a shout out to the guys this week before my usual laydeez-fest. Twitch, Joshua, and Gev all were amazing. So much so that I was super-pissed that Gev was in the bottom three. On the other hand, we got to see him do his thing, which was astounding (if you scare Cat you've done a good job), so it wasn't all bad. Keep bringing it, you three. Make us all forget about how well-trained and just plain perfect Will is.
Also, nice to see Robert Muraine again, even if Nigel faced him a couple of times. Oh, and a dance-off between him and Phil Chbeeb? Yes please.
Is this girl ever going to mess up? I swear, she's one of the strongest all-around female dancers I've ever seen on this show. And, as mentioned, they almost didn't take her. I shudder to think what this season would be like without her talent every week.
Courtney almost took this spot away this week, but Kher holds strong. That Mia Michaels piece was, of course, amazing. Almost as good as the week 1 soldier-boy dance by Katee and Joshua. Almost.
She apparently read my entry last week and really came out of her shell. Being in the bottom three helped that a bit, I'm sure, and it was great to see her cheer on Gev so strongly. That being said, let's leave her out of the bottom three from here on out, mkay?
Comfort faltered a bit for me this week, especially during her solo. It seems like she feels like she's out of it already, which really brings the partner down if nothing else. Let's see if Gayne (as the wife and I have taken to calling him) can pull her out of her funk.
If she's still around when they switch partners up in the top ten it will be interesting to see. Will has pretty much carried her through (though I do think she has great lines when she dances with confidence (which is rare)) to this point. She needs to dance with someone who isn't constantly being told "Good job with the trainwreck" every week.
There have been calls for this girl to move up beyond Jessica but I just can't do it. I know she has talent (obviously) but I just don't connect with her in any way. As is often said, it is extremely important for your personality to be as good as your dancing on this show and she just doesn't do it for me. Too bad too, because I think Mark is hilarious. He's second on the "SYTYCD-ers that would be fun to have dinner with" list this season. Cat tops that list every season.
Happy 4th. Eat some processed meat products, swill some bacteria pee, and interact with other humanoid life forms in celebration of this place some of us call home (a squadron of fighter jets just flew overhead as I typed that. Land of the free).
