An anti-smoking commercial just made me want a cigarette.
I've set out to become as well-read as I possibly can. I've made a list of books that everyone has read (although most people actually haven't) and I'm going to read all of them. It's 75 books in all, so I've got a good year's worth of books to read.
I got this idea to do this from my father. When he was in college he made a list of all the books that are considered classics that everyone reads and he read them all in a summer - one book a day actually - and as a result he always sounds incredibly well-read (which he actually is). So now, I'm doing it too. There would have been about 50 more books on the list but as I've already read those I'm down to lucky number 75. I'm going to start tonight.
Also, I'm looking for suggestions for study-music. I can't listen to music with words; even music with words in languages I don't understand. I'm really into upbeat Jazz, particularly trumpets (Al Hirt and the like), and quick and charming classical. I'm particularly fond of the piano.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated!
And you have no fucking idea how hard I'm fighting the urge to eat like 12 snickers bars. It's so hard to resist the urge.

Anyway, yes, I did finally watch that video, and it was hilarious. I just read that article you sent me - it's a refinement of a technique that was discussed in Scientific American a few months ago, it's pretty interesting, I may still have the article. It has a lot of potential for surgery I think.
What's on your book list? I'd be very interested to check it out - I've been basically doing the same thing for the past ten years or so (mixing things up a bit, of course, so I get to read fun books as well as informative books each year.) I think you'll like it.
