Soap Box Idol Porc Fest 010 - Shed your negativity!
Porc Fest was awesome. I totally felt like I was preaching to the choir with this speech, but I still felt it needed to be said. I think a lot of activists and let's face it arm chair activists trolls keep too caught up in how people will view something they (or more likely what other activists do) say or do in a negative way. Like if you put on fairy wings or smoke pot or walk around topless, people just arent gonna take you seriously. But this is tunnel vision, you're only seeing the negative side, you end up totally ignoring all the positives that come out of this activism. All the people they inspire who want to get more active. The important thing is to just live free. When people see you livin free they think, oh shit, maybe I should live free too, they can do it, why cant i?! so whatever you wanna do, do it. (as long as you dont hurt anybody)
And this is an individualist movement. Start acting like it. What someone else does does not reflect on you or the movement. If someone thinks that, they're wrong. Why let someone else's opinion run your life and effect your relationships with people you care about and have common ideals with. You have the same goals (usually) just a different idea of how to reach them. But you know, that's awesome. We need to try all those ideas, cuz what works for one person isnt gonna work for everybody. State indoctrination runs really deep. It starts at an early age. It's very difficult to shake people out of it. They have an emotional attachment to it. Sometimes logic doesnt even work! Just look at all those atheist v. Christianity debates. Besides bananas dont naturally grow like that. They're breed that way.
But you know what, maybe you just dont like the person and dont want to associate with them. That's fine too, you have the right to do that. You dont need any excuses. You dont need to make it into a witch hunt.
Not to direct this at anyone specifically, I'm guilty of it to. That's why I decided to focus on my own experience to deliver this message, of course most people missed it cuz the picture might have been hard to see and they probably didnt even notice my underwear was showing. But when I saw that, I had negative thoughts about the picture and what people would think about me. And you know what, most people who I told about this said they didnt even notice it til I told em. Someone even called me a saint because the dartboard behind me looked like a halo and I totally missed that cuz I was too focused on my own negativity.
