male echidna’s have a four-headed penis. And two of the heads ejaculate simultaneously...

Males have intense sperm battles with eachother in hopes that their sperm will be ~*the chosen one*~ four heads = more sperm = more chances of puggles (baby echidna’s!). Males come out of hibernation before females & will go around and mate with said hibernating females. While in torpor, the females can essentially select the superior sperm, delay gestation, & even self abort unwanted eggs

So the males are basically just going around trying to usurp the previous males sperm
