Okay, I know the last time I updated was during Dimebag's death...and a hell of a lot has happened since then. I obviously finished my semester, still waiting for two of my five grades. I received two B's and a D (border-line C); not too too bad, so far the GPA is a 2.333 for the semester, and has boosted my overall to 1.923.
After school was finished, I went to visit my girlfriend Anna that night and stayed until Friday. We hung out a bit, just chilled a lot mainly, and I caught up on a lot of sleep due to her being in school in the daytime. At this point, we hadn't seen each other for about a month or so...pretty fuckin beat, but I've gotten to see her about once a week this break so far. Friday night, I went to the Maiden/Priest/Sabbath/Pantera tribute show at the Starland Ballroom with my buds Skodnick, Joe C, and Metal Joe, and we met up with Metal Mish at the gig. Kinda sucked getting in, they checked EVERYBODY'S ID, and bullet belts are no longer allowed inside. Overall, the show was excellent. Sanctuary (Maiden) was the best overall; they even had two Eddies-one inflatable, and one with someone inside! When the person Eddie was walking offstage, the person who was helping him off led him on the staircase wrong so only one foot was on the step. Needless to say, this dude busted ass bigtime! The top of his costume came off and hit the soundboard, and we thought he had to at least have broken his ankle, let alone his leg. They also had the stage set up in the Powerslave era with backgrounds and everything. If you closed your eyes, it sounded like Maiden themselves were playing. Everything that was played was from Powerslave and earlier (Aces High, Two Minutes To Midnight, Hallowed Be Thy Name, Powerslave, The Number Of The Beast, The Trooper, and some others). Exciter (Priest) was exactly the same with the sound; just like Priest. They also did the whole leather theme like Priest. I don't think they did anything later than the Defenders Of The Faith album. Sabbra Cadabra (Sabbath) kicked ass as well. The band came out looking exactly like Sabbath in the 70's, jump suits, platforms, haircuts, and even the same guitars and basses. Ozzy was the "fat Ozzy" so he was like modern Ozzy when he talked, but sang like the old one. Came out in a purple jumpsuit with white platforms, mocked modern Ozzy a ton, with similar stage slogans ("New Jersey is my favorite place to play," etc.). Cowboys From Hell (Pantera) were TERRIBLE. The vocalist had to read the lyrics off of sheets (and that was the first thing he saved when he spilled his beer, NOT his microphone), the guitarist was bogus, and the drummer didn't know Vinnie's beats. The bassist was the only thing going for them.
I got my old job back at The Music Box (independent instrument store) for the break, and found out some EXCELLENT news for my future endeavors. My boss/the owner is opening up three new locations, and he wants me to manage one of them. So as soon as I graduate, I have a guaranteed job where I will enjoy it completely, I can wear whatever I want, listen to whatever I want, smoke on the job, and meet tons of excelent people. Been doing that a few days a week (two more hours til I'm going in today, lol). Went to see Anna again a few days before Christmas because she had a choral concert; she did really well.
Christmas was pretty cool; I got lots of great gifts. Anna gave me Iron Maiden-Visions Of The Beast DVD and Pee Wee Herman's Christmas Special DVD, her father gave me Iron Maiden's s/t, one of my bosses gave me a pile of old Brazilian Death Metal vinyls and included Anthrax's Fistful Of Metal picture disc (1526/2000)! Got a mini Marshall guitar amp and a Pope on a rope from my sister and brother in law, a book on pioneers of alternative music genres and a gift certificate from my maternal aunt and uncle, an afghan, money, and candy from my maternal grandmother, money from my paternal grandfather, and a gift card from my paternal aunt and uncle. From my parents, I got a guitar calender; DVDs: Maiden's The Early Days, Don't Tell Mom The Babysitter's Dead, High School High, and My Neighbor Totoro; CDs: Accept-Metal Heart, Motorhead-OverKill, and Judas Priest-British Steel/Point Of Entry/Screaming For Vengenance boxed set; Hess Truck, clothes, a spy-style digital camera, and a ton of other stuff I can't remember (the holiday is huge in my family). I spent the Eve with my paternal family at my uncle's and the day at home with my maternal.
For New Years, I went over to Anna's. We were going to go to a nicer place to eat, but it didn't pan out. Instead, we went to a Pizzeria/restaurant which was very down to earth and had awesome people there. The portions were fucking huge and decently priced. For the both of us, the total was slightly under $20.
Lately, just been working and chilling and such. Last night, I went to Vintage Vinyl for the first time with Joe C, Skodnick, and Ian. Picked up Priest's Turbo for $11 brand new, Anthrax's Fistful Of Metal and Spreading The Disease for $5 each used(had the vinyls, needed the CDs for my car), and got a vinyl of Venom's Welcome To Hell for free because it was scratched up. Ran into a college buddy, cool to see him again. So, that's all that's really been going on with me lately...oh, and I'm going to see Bent Brother (Twisted Sister without makeup) on the 15th at the Starland with Skodnick, Joe C, and meeting up with my bud Virginia.
Hope everyone is doing well through the holidays.
