K...fun game to play in teh office. If your place of work is anything like mine then you probably get plagued most of the day by fucking callcentres trying valiantly to save you money on your phone / consumable / utility bills etc.
Calls like this are always irritating but at first I managed to retain some semblance of civility to the poor schmoes who were calling, after all they're just doing a job right? It's not their fault? However, after a ridiculous amount of time and irrespective of repeated requests for them to never again call our number (ignored completely by them of course) it's a different story.
I did start hanging up the seconds I heard that it was an unsolicited call, but now that's changed, now we have developed a variety of games to play that make the cold call *so* much more entertaining
Firstly you need to invent an imaginary character who's going to field all of your calls...she/he will be the uber-busy always uncontactable person in your office who these people *need* to talk to...we used Cordelia Flakk (an oblique reference to a character from the Thursday Next books by Jasper Fforde since his website was what sparked this whole scheme in the first place!), and, now that her name has permeated itself into all of these callcentres systems, we know as soon as they call that they are a waste of time, and do 1 of 2 things:
1 - Play the "on hold" game. This is where you say that "Cordelia" is on another call and ask whether they'd like to hold...then leave them there and see how long it takes them to lose interest and hang up.
2 - The "Yes / No" game...whereby you try to hold a conversation with the caller but are only allowed to answer with a yes or a no...*much* harder than it sounds and it takes practice not to be ensnared by their damnable scripts.
Childish? Of course...Fun? Ooohhh yes ^^

Just call me the fluffiness fairy! Office games are great but we don't get those kind of phone calls. In a way I almost want call centres to keep calling us so I can toy with them. Would def make the day pass by quicker.
