yesterday i actually didn't play FFXI, but i did get kathryn to play final fantasy crystal chronicals with me... finally.
i had to use the hook of "but honey, it's really just gauntlet with better graphics and magic", because a)she's afraid of trying anything new, and b) she loves gauntlet and REALLY hates final fantasy.
once she realised that you're actually hacking and slashing in real time instead of selecting it out of some menu and waiting for something to happen, she liked it a lot more...
it's really difficult to try and explain to someone who doesn't like RPG's what the appeal is... but those of us in the know, we know where it's at
