awfully hard to type with one hand -my left hand no less and i am right handed...
was on my way to work friday when suddenly a car door was flung open in my path. normally i do not ride so fast so close to a line of parked cars but taffic to my left was very heavy and i hadn't even scoped out the center line as a path yet. anyway, here comes the car door and i swing as wide as i can to get around it and work to stop and you know, i almost made it. almost. unfotunately i smashed my hand between the edge of the door and the my handlebar, then smashed my ribs against the side of the door and then fell down -- out of the path of traffic thankfully.
my right middle finger was snapped in half as well as fractured, but not seperated, from the point of the break up to the first knucle. i also badly bruised, but did not break, some ribs. my head never touched the ground. i will need to have surgery on the hand on friday. they'll put some steel in there to hold it all together. i'm bracing for whatever nerve damage there might be and trying to stay positive. my bike wasn't damaged.
i don't have insurance but the motorist does. i should know in a day or two if they are going to work with me or if i'll need a lawyer. i have no interest in exploiting this situation. i simply want all my expenses covered and all of my missed wages paid and i want to go back to work.
i carry my small camera with me everywhere so there are some photos from before and durring my visit to the er. you may not want to look if you are really squimish.

I broke three fingers and a toe last summer. None were that bad. Just cracks.
