Friday Me, Jeff, Jay (Omeganightmare), Ricki (Mavenist), and CJ all went up to the Lake and did a bunch of work on my mom's (practically demolished) old house.
Back Story: My mom sold her house about 2 years ago, and the people who bought it, ended up losing their jobs and not being able to make the payments. My mom was carrying the loan (because it's a modular home without a foundation and banks wont finance for such things) and in turn, got the house back when said buyers could no longer make payments.
First of all, it took them a LONG time to actually vacate the premises...whatever. But then, when they finally did leave, they left it like this:
This is a shed they turned into a makeshift chicken coop:
Bathtub (not originally in house) that was left in the front yard:
Living room floor (soaked in pet urine among other things...with lots of holes):
Brand new stove:
ETC ETC ETC...I'm really too tired to post the rest.
Anyway...we all went up there Friday, and the boys ripped up all the piss-soaked carpets, Ricki cleaned the kitchen (which now looks 800 times better), and I started in cleaning the walls and making sure everything still worked. There's still a lot of work to be done, but it looks sooo much better. Although when we came back from dinner, it still smelled like pee, but we're going to fix that as well.
The neighbors stopped by at one point and informed us that the prior tenants actually had goats and all kinds of animals that just went in the house as they pleased. No wonder it smells...
We are all a bit sore from the job, but have a huge sense of accomplishment. Oh, and I ended up getting sick, and everyone thinks it's from the house. Ugh. Why do I have to be so sensitive to stuff???
How was YOUR weekend??
