- not the best weekend...
body by ducati...tail by honda.
i was headed down to philly on a quick jaunt to catch an event a friend was working and enjoy the day riding before having to go to LI in the evening to shoot a club event. Brooklyn to I-80 West to the Water Gap, go down 33 (nice twisties by the river), end up in valley forge - pick up my riding buddy, go to philly for a bit - slab it back in the evening. beautiful day - nice ride, huh?
need gas and coffee - get off at exit 308, stop at the stop sign on the top of the ramp. i have seen 4 cops in the last 15 minutes in PA, decide that doing a full stop (instead of a rolling stop) would be a good thing. there is a h*nda coming up behind me. i stop, see a car coming - decide to hold up for a sec (i could have made it, but it would have been a fast takeoff and the gas station was only about 100 yards up and wasn't worth the "excessive exhibition of speed" to just pull in). suddenly, i went from sitting on my bike to sitting on I disagree watching my monster sliding up the rode in front of me.
the guy in the h*nda looked right, saw me, looked left, figured i went and pulled out...right into my back tire. he was doing less than 10mph. he was very worried and really easy to deal with. didn't drive off, offered to call 911 (2 harley guys in a truck witnessed it and were pretty much ready to offer street justice if he did drive off) - local police and a state trooper both showed up in less than 5 min after it happened.
i'm fine - thank goodness for vanson. took most of the fall on my armored elbow and fat ass. the bike took the hit on the right rear and slid on the left
final score on the bike (that i could tell):
- rear rim is folded, tire is unhappy
- right aftermarket cool sounding pipe bent in 90*
- left aftermarket cool sounding pipe dented and scraped
- beer tray is gone
- rear brake is fubar'd
- left peg is broken
- shifter is broken
- frame slider is worn down and bent
- left CRG mirror is gone
- barend slider is worn down
- left switch pod needs to be replaced
- instrument pod needs to be replaced
- big scuff on my seat cowl
- some scuffs on the hugger
my friend brought up a good point - for the impact to fold the tire, the force had to go somewhere...could i have screwed the swingarm and frame?
all in all - it could have been a whole lot worse. happy to be ok, pissed to be without a bike right now.
on a good note - just saw Napolean Dynamite...sheer genius.
