Hang in there retail buddies, we're almost done with the madness. I work in a grocery store so I know how busy and stressful November and December can get at work. I used to work on the graveyard shift (8 years), but 2 years ago they moved me to the day shift. It's amazing how rude and ugly people can get this time of year. This was my 2nd Thanksgiving working in the daylight, lol! All I can say is I miss getting out of the store before the rush of shoppers come in.
I got to work with the stocking crew this week as 1 of the crew members took a vacation. It was a nice break from being in the check-stand and having to deal with the customers and all their BS. I like coming into work, breaking down the load, wheeling it to the aisle, throwing it to the shelves, facing and ordering all while listening to my ipod. And there's always a bit of overtime so the paychecks are better. The only down side is sleeping during the day.
Being off crew has been nice, I get to sleep at night again and have a regular life. But the graveyard shift is less stressful than being a checker. I think I might go back on crew next year. Working graveyard for 8 of my 11 years at the store is why I've been able to tolerate the job for so long and keep my sanity!
