This makes me absolutely giddy. I'm like a little schoolgirl watching this damn thing. It's time to reveal a few things about Tanner, the man. I am an absolute nut for musical theater. I've seen Les Mis, Miss Saigon, Phantom, Joseph, JC Superstar and the list goes on and on. I got this love of musical theater from my mother who always had a musical or some music on in my house growing up. Even with her amazing love of musicals she didn't see her first professional production until my Junior year in high school.
I took her, on that occasion, to see Jesus Christ Superstar with Ted Neely, who played Jesus in the movie. This was huge when you consider the fact that this movie musical was one that my mom had shown me at a very early age and that she loved. She saw a few more professional shows between that one and her death, but none meant as much to her or I as the one I took her to in December of 2001, just 6 months prior to her death. That show was Rent. It was a touring company in Wichita, KS, but it was still Rent. My mom wasn't real familar with the show, having heard my playing it and singing along to it for years, but never getting a real handle on the plot.
Now, anybody who does know much about the plot of rent might think it's an odd show to take your mother to, but then you didn't know my mom. So I took my mom to Rent with absolutely no worries at all whatsoever. As it turned out it was one of the most enjoyable nights we had had in many years. We both loved the show and were thoroughly awed. Thus this makes me absolutely insanely giddy.
