Recent events, such as the appointment of an ardent opponent of the authority of the UN being appointed to the UN ambassadorship from the US, has once again brought to the forefront of the worlds consciousness that the Bush Administration does not care what the world thinks. As if to reiterate that point(like the world hasnt already realized it), I was listening to NPR this morning and heard a report about Abu Ghraib that details the fact that many prisoners were kept shielded from international monitors and kept off the books in general. Some of these none reported captives were as young as 12 years old. Now, granted, I know that terrorists have, through the ages, used the most innocent looking among us to help them catch us unawares, but I do want to say that when testimony is given of a 12 year old boy telling his captors that all he wants to do is see his mommy, this is never an acceptable situation.
I dont actually have much of a point to this past that I think its deplorable the way this country thumbs its nose at basic human rights, and then calls countries on their violations of human rights. I also find it amazingly hypocritical that the Bush administration calls for Syria to immediately leave Lebanon (which I actually think should happen) wile we continue to occupy Iraq. Kettle, this is the pot, did you know youre black?
