Multiply the number of people by 7
Increase the This train to Liberty Statue?-followed-by-a-puzzled-look interaction with wildly grinning tourists three fold
Double the likelihood of actually seeing someone barbecuing on the L platform in Union Square
Quadruple the odds of an actual soccer riot breaking out on any platform at any given time
Who would these games actually benefit?
That line were fed about it boosting the local economy is simply that, a line
Gridlock
Impassable sidewalks
Commute times tripled because of checkpoints and street closures
What about the inconveniencing of the people who actually live and work in this city?
Were an afterthought
Let our lives be disturbed not just for the duration of the Olympics but for the weeks before when we will attempt to prepare to provide an illusion of safety for all the extra people
Let our lives continue to be disturbed in the weeks afterward when we have to pick up the shit they leave behind
At the end well be left with a huge pile of garbage and an even fouler taste in our mouths for those who are running our city and our country
