CAUTION : DEPRESSING NEWS AHEAD
If you don't want to be bummed out please read no further...
What a shit week I have had .
It started out with me catching some kind of cold / flu bug which has been spreading thoughout my place of employment . I had to leave work early yesterday , and I called off today . Just when I was feeling a little better my mom called . She told me that her recent medical tests have shown that the lymphoma (Cancer of the lymph nodes) has come back after TWO previous ordeals with chemo therapy . She seems to be pretty confident that her doctors can treat this one too , but she's getting on in years and it becomes more and more difficult for her to bounce back from the debillitating side effects of the treatment . She's a tough lady though , I'm putting my money on her to win this battle too .
While telling me this news , she also informed me that my cousin , who's only a few years older than me , was diagnosed with breast cancer and was going to Harrisburgh,PA for a mastectomy next week . I've always known that there was a high frequency of cancer in my family , but it usually didn't show itself until later in life . This was an unpleasant bit of news to say the least . Hopefully the procedure will remove all of the cancerous cells and all will be well .
This all comes after the news that my stepfather was hospitalized a few days ago with a possible gall bladder condition . He's still in the hospital and the doctors have said that they found spots on his liver . I'm not entirely sure what that means , but it can't be good news . We're still not sure what's going on with him .
As if ALL of that weren't enough , I just read an e-mail that the son of the people who live across the street from my mom and stepfather was killed a few weeks ago in Iraq . He apparently dove on a grenade to shield the other four people in his Hum-Vee . They sustained serious injuries , but are expected to pull through . He received a posthumous silver medal of valor . He was 19 years old .
Talk about "when it rains , it pours" . This is a friggin' tsunami . I feel like I'm just getting washed along with the current . I'm still just kind of stunned with all of the news hitting me so fast . I have high hopes for all of my family members . They have all been through serious medical conditions before and come out alright . I'm just praying that they can continue their good luck out of bad luck streak .
Talk to y'all later . TFH , out .
