- Dont judge a book by its cover-
-----------------------------------------------------------
As you look around on social media today, what do you see? The outpouring of female empowerment. You see women lifting each other up in support. An uproar of girl power and feminism. Women showing the inequality they feel between male and female. .....
It is indeed, #internationalwomensday
But here's the other side of it. As a woman I notice that we tend to bring each other down more than the male suppressors. We judge each other's looks, hair, makeup. We scoff at the woman showing off her body and label her as a whore. We ridicule the woman dressed modestly as a prude. In our younger years, we've all been there. Judging those we envy. Judging those we do not know. I'm almost willing to bet that if you say you've never done this... you are lying to yourself. This piece is coming from a place of personal experience. I once was very insecure with myself. I looked down on women who had the confidence to show their body. The progression of this piece is based on a true story. Of a young lady I once labeled as a whore in my teen years. Only to learn that behind the beauty and makeup I envied... was a young lady being abused.
I've grown so much since those years, we all have. And if there's one thing I've learned through this walk we call life. It's that we as women, suppress each other far more than the male does. How can we expect equality, if we don't show it to each other? Lift each other up, every day. Because you have no idea what's behind that warpaint ... maybe those kind words, were exactly what she needed to get through another day in hell.
