Septate Hymen
The hymen is an area of tissue that represents the opening to the vagina. The hymenal tissue is a ring-like form of tissue which has a hole within the center, present at birth. A septate hymen refers to a band of extra hymeneal tissue running vertically in the area of the normal hymen. A hymeneal septum may interfere with a woman's ability in insert a tampon or she may find that she can insert the tampon but once it expands with blood, she cannot remove the tampon. A hymeneal septum does not have to be surgically removed and if a woman attempts to have sexual intercourse with a septate hymen it will usually tear. This may be associated with some discomfort, pain, or bleeding. A simple surgical approach can be undertaken to remove the septate hymen, thus creating a normal hymeneal orifice. - http://web1.tch.harvard.edu/cfapps/A2ZtopicDisplay.cfm?Topic=Septate%20Hymen
So I'm taking a vote. For those who have been following my baby is getting her septal hymen tag snipped. We are having SIR Video's Shar Rednour video tape this joyous and artful occasion for us. However the question is where to have this done? Heather has gone to a womans clinic here that said they will write a referral for General Hospital, but does she want to get this done at General Hospital? And she has insurance but didn't tell the clinic that as we really like this clinic -- its queer and women only. So the hospital that her insurance would refer her to is a private hospital that seems nicer and safer to me but we would need a refferal for her to go there. Or Annie Sprinkle says she should have Dr Deb at St James Infirmary snip it right there at the clinic. What do you all think? And yes we have decided to pickle and perserve the hymen for our future generations to see.
