Well, it's high time I freshen up this profile and make a new blog post, now that I'm starting to know some folks around here. This story begins with the re-discovery of an old friend, known to SG as nikonphoto80. We made an all-out high-speed burn [tips hat to HST] up to Newport, Kentucky (across the river from Cincinnati, Ohio) for the opening of Jimmy and Judy. Actually, my driving was safe, but the movie was pretty racey.
Besides the cool pre-party at the Southgate House--an historically significant dwelling (among other things, Brig. Gen. John Tariaferro Thompson, inventor of the "Tommy Gun" was born in this house in 1860) turned into a bar and live music venue--we got perilously close to a shark petting zoo cleverly disguised among trendy retail establishments like Hot Topic and B&N Booksellers. In the courtyard of the mall complex, a regae band played. Inside the Southgate House, during the pre-party, lively acoustic rock filled the air and the place was packed from the floorboards to the rafters with party people.
Jimmy and Judy paraphenalia was in abundance, especially T-shirts, several of which adorned the backs of tough, sexy chicks on wheels, known as The Black and Bluegrass Roller Girls. Fishnets and roller skates has to be the ultimate apparel combination.
We met up with punknitemike and modvayne. Later, artgrrl joined the crew. Despite the crowd, all of us got to chat a bit with writer/director Jon Schroder, and after the screening, we also got to meet his co-writer/co-director, Randall K. Rubin. Also, Schroder's amazing girlfriend Megan who designed the Jimmy and Judy MySpace page.
The creative team of Schroder, Rubin and Co. was nervous and preoccupied, of course, but still did a great job hosting the event, and loosened up admirably after a few beers and a successful screening. I don't think a single person present was less than riveted and enthralled with this dark and challenging film.
I'll post more soon, maybe a full film review. Let me hear from you, good people.

p.s. I need to talk to artgrrl more, for she's wicked smart and has a sly sense of humor, a real pleasure to view and discuss films with her.

nikonphoto80:
you still alive?
ninjatoes:
I'm still healing, but every day gets a little better. And I'm determined to have this party if it kills me. We've been talking about having a get together since we moved in, but I was either too sickly or we had repairs to finish or what have you. Plus, I'm a big holiday dork and really get into Christmas. Last year, I baked something like 13 dozen cookies. So yes, the party is still on.
