First game was yesterday.
Our team has a new attitude this season because we have a new captain and he isn't taking any bullshit from the established veterans so every position is up for grabs, we were all fighting for spots in practice, playing aggressively in practice and running hard. It showed Saturday.
We played Brandywine RFC. I got the start at Tighthead Prop and played the first half. I ran hard, scrummed well, and rucked hard. The 2nd half our other props got the nod, we have 4 good props and we plan to utilize them all to keep the front line fresh. Because as anyone who knows rugby will tell you, the front line dictates the flow of the game.
We lost 19-17 on a fluke play that 9 out of 10 times would go our way. The ref announced that the particular scrum down was the last one of the game, meaning the clock was expired and the next dead ball would signal the end of the game. We won the scrum and our fly half goes to kick the ball out of bounds. Well I guess he caught it the wrong way on his foot and it went upfield. It got blocked, it rolls into the tryzone and they fall on it for the game winning try,
I am proud of our team because we did play together as a unit and despite the last second loss (literally last second loss) we played very well. No bitching at each other and no excuses. We did well.
Next weekend is Lancaster. 4th in the nation in Division 2. We are stoked for this one.
