spring is springing...have you noticed?
there is a wonderful cherry tree in a community garden, right outside our bathroom window...and even tho it is the concrete jungle, i still see a surprising amount of wildlife antics. last year there was a male starling (black bird with a yellow beak and speckled shiny feathers) who was yodelling his heart out every morning. as i listened, i realized that he was actually mimicking other bird songs....who knew? when he finally found a mate, the two of them took up residence in some loose slats on the outside of our house! i watched their comings and goings with bits of fluff and hair and stuffing for the nest. and when the siding on the house started peeping, i assumed the babies had hatched!
just a few days ago there was a male goldfinch (little finch like bird with yellow and black markings) in flashy finery singing his bird version of "when i think about you, i touch myself". i haven't seen any takers yet.
i haven't noticed people waking up yet...do you notice that every year? that all of a sudden, when you walk down the street, everyone is on the prowl, looking at everyone else, so excited to be dressed in something other than big bulky jackets...everyone still seems a bit sleepy...including me.
what is your favorite sign of spring?
YAY!!! YAY YAY YAY!!!!! my set went up! YAYAYYAYAY!!
wow...all your amazing comments so far have me totally lol cracking up...thanks you guys!!! i'm glad you can appreciate raccoons too! and yes, i did make the costume...i sewed and stuffed the tail, and then covered it with totally not vegan boa fur.
but my favorite pic from the set is missing...i feel like a spoiled brat saying that bothers me, but it really was my favorite...
it was an ass shot. a REALLY good ass shot. i wonder what happened?

i love when you get that first hint of spring in the air. it's still cold, but you can just feel everything starting to wake up. and then the birds start singing all the time. and the flowers start poking up. it's great until the rivers of pollen hit. it's like being in the middle of a giant plant orgy and i don't want to be invited!
