well, the longest and darkest night has passed, and the days just barely begin to lengthen. the moon was just new and now she too begins her cycle of growth. and now x-mas eve is upon us. how do you find yourself faring? stressed with shopping for gifts? resentful for having to be caught up in all this consumerism? feel like you'll projectile vomit if you hear one more goddamn christmas carol? (actually i still love 'em) hungover with dread around seeing relatives? lonesome? or have you managed to hold on to your good cheer and are looking forward to the festivities with a little bit of giddy anticipation?
i hope that however you are feeling, you can find some time for yourself today or tomorrow to just be with it...that stress or joy or whatever...be with it, and yourself, gently. it's such a shame really, that in this most quiet and dark time of the year we are forced to go out and exert ourselves and deal with other equally grumpy people when we all really just want to be home, eating yummy food and hibernating.
but i'll say this too. don't let all the consumption and corporate madness make you bitter. this holiday of xmas/ hannukah/kawanza, you name it, goes back to ancient celebrations around the solstice...and the core has always been the same. celebrating the return of life in the dead of winter, appreciation through gift giving of people that we love, and the bawdy drunken feasts, inside, by a fire, eating yummy food, and hibernating. don't let the modern shit version of xmas get you down or make you hate this season...because that means they've won. reclaim this time for your own and remember what you used to love about it before it meant a huge credit card bill.
i love you all! SG has been one of the biggest gifts to me this year, and your silliness, your honesty and your affection make this place a source of joy for me.
happy holidays!!
