I sent a quick email invitation to my family for the upcoming graduation ( my aunts, my dad, my grandma, godparents etc.), and didn't include my step mothers address. Although we don't get along, and I'm indifferent as to whether I see her or not, it didn't cross my mind to send her the note simply because I assumed my Dad would tell her. They are married, it makes sense right?

But this is the email I got back:

Thanks for the invite !!
Can you invite (step mom's name) directly if you would like her to attend so that she knows. I don't want to assume this.

This dynamic is so strange to me. When I was still young and living at home, they constantly tried to enforce how they were a 'team' and that I shouldn't treat them separately. But they do things like this all the time. If I was going out for the night, or anything more or less mundane, I had to tell them each separately so that stepmom wouldn't freak out from not being included. Isn't a marriage about communication?
So I forwarded it back to both of them explaining how of course she's invited as well. I wonder if my Dad will get in shit with her when she sees what he wrote to me. 1000000000000000 bucks says yes.

(I know this entry so far probably makes no sense to those who don't know the history..)
