School has begun once again, the 3rd semester out of 4. This time around:
Pediatrics! Kids kids kids. I get along with children well enough (being a nerd leaves me quite open to their flights of fancy), but I'm not sure how much I want to deal with them in a medical environment. I did get the rotation site I wanted, though: oncology and respiratory (mostly kids with cancer and cystic fibrosis). What it lacks in liveliness it should more than make up for in relevant experience; oncology is currently my planned pursuit.
Research! Just as exciting as it sounds. I'm interested in research in theory, but it's such an incredible pain in the arse that I'm not sure I'm mentally suited for it.
Discipline II. Like the sequel to a really bad movie.
Maternity!. I hate babies, and the birthing process is the most revolting thing I've ever seen. I've cut open hundreds of dead people and taken out lots of insides. I like Takashi Miike. Big thumbs up for blood and gore! But pulling pink and puffing sacks of cyanotic screams out of some wailing woman's womb is not my idea of a good time, much less some wonderful miracle. Bleh.
This other thing! Haven't had day 1 of "the other thing" yet, so all I know is that I'll be working on some project in a local hospital ER.
All this until mid-December, after which I get a month off before the grand finale.
In other news: I just sank $1200 into my car -- not a budget buster but no cause for celebration either. I'm having to put up with irritating, pricy, bureaucratic issues. Not worth expending space on the details, but which I mention for venting purposes. There's a girl I've been fond of for awhile now. We're close friends and have some classes and a clinical rotation together, but I get the feeling she's not into it. I've got a fair number of years on her, so I don't blame her really. Just annoying.
The summer break went as intended, with lots of Netflix viewing, much hanging out with friends (including one gal briefly home from a job that keeps her out of the country most times), a little reading, a few movies, rather a lot of wine, and sundry other varieties of chillness. I have Dragon*Con from Sept 3-7, which should be damn fun, and friends may be visiting some time next month.
Much school stuff to attend to. Cheers,
