This entry is for all those who have seen Donnie Darko, inspired by a recent post in the illustrious Sadie M's journal. OK, class, there are two very important levels of irritation in life: mildly perturbed, and royally pissed. Many kinds of situations in life can cause one to fall near these two points on the mildly perturbed/royally pissed spectrum. Below are three questions. Please come up to the board and mark an X on the line where you think the correct emotion would be:
royally pissed------------------------------mildly perturbed
And please don't give me any lip or threaten to shove a book up my bum or you will get a ZERO for the day.
1.) Bethany is at the fast-food drive-thru window at Arby's. She orders spicy curly fries and later, when she gets home, she discovers that instead they gave her a huge box of coleslaw. Where do you think this should go on the spectrum?
2.) George is cleaning windows on 88th floor of an office building. A pidgeon suddenly lands on his head. He quickly tries to brush it away, but in the process, loses his balance and suddenly tips over the edge of his window-cleaing harness. He dangles in mid-air on his safetly belt for a half hour before help finally arrives. All the while the pidgeon perches on a ledge in front of his face and just coos at him, seemingly mocking him. How do you think George should feel towards the pidgeon at this point?
3.) Ruth-Anne wins $50,000 in the lottery, but she notices that if she had just changed her Lucky Number Combo by only one number, she would have $500,000 instead. Where do you think her emotions over this should go on the spectrum?
