Whats your definition of Luck? Dictionary.com tells us:
1. The chance happening of fortunate or adverse events; fortune: They met one day out of pure luck.
2.Good fortune or prosperity; success: We wish you luck.
3.One's personal fate or lot: It was just my luck to win a trip I couldn't take.
Well, yesterday me and the PERHAPSEVILwent to the happiest place on Earth to check out the newly renovated Space Mountain. After a two year hiatus, the bestest indoor rollercoaster has finally returned!
Unfortunately, the fast-passes were pretty much gone by the time we got there and the few they had left werent going to be valid until after 11. So as we cued up to wait in the hour-and-a-half line, some random guy approaches us and says, you want these? And there in his hand were a pair of fast-passes!
So we walked right on AND got the first seats on the first car for our first ride on Space Mountain in over two years! So yeah, the Force was deffinitely with us yesterday.
The rest of the weekend was pretty good too. Friday night we went out with some friends, hit a couple bars and proceeded to get ridiculously shitty (allegedly). Saturday was a hungover movie marathon of craptastic proportions, including the 80s classic Waxwork! I still love the one.
Oh, and I actually caught a screening of Stealth last week. Believe it or not, it doesnt suck quite as much as the trailers would have you believe. Dont get me wrong, its not a brilliant movie, but its a big cheesy summer popcorn flick with lots of explosions and a good five-or-so minutes of Jessica Biel in a bikini. Basically, its a movie aimed squarely at teenage boys. More than anything else, it suffers from Rob (XXX, Fast and the Furious) Cohens direction.
But if youre anything like me and think Top Gun sucks donkey balls and just fast-forward through the story and homoerotic volley ball game to watch the aerial combat, you might actually half enjoy Stealth. So yeah Shit blows up real good!
Well, wish me luck. The next couple of weeks will see whether or not a certain pet project of mine will go forward or end up in the ash heap of abandoned ideas. Sorry to be vague, but any good vibes would much appreciated.
And the big question of the week: Will the space shuttle actually lift off this time?
Now, Im as big a supporter of the space program as anyone could possibly be. I know there are many detractors who consider it a decadent waste of money that could be better spent on Earthly concerns. But personally, I see it as humanitys duty to push the envelope of manned exploration. Indeed, I tend to think that the malaise of modern life stems partly from the fact that theres not really an out there anymore. Throughout most of history, the unknown has compelled man to work harder and go farther. It seems that now, with most of the world charted and space exploration the province of billion-dollar telescopes, were losing the heart to explore, and by the same token, better ourselves.
I know, Im sounding like a big Trekkie, but
My problem with the space program, however, is that it seems more and more objective minds in the science community are agreeing that the space shuttle has outlived its use. It was a brilliant leap forward for its day and age, but its just not practical. Simple rockets, while not as sexy, could save us billions and allow us to undertake more aggressive missions.
So thats my random musing for the day.
Have a great week.
