Well hellooo!
Whata-whata-whata weekend! So, sooo tired. Id like nothing more than to take an extra day and get my head back together, but
So Where to begin?
I guess Ill just start at the beginning, and when I get to the end, Ill stop See?
We were up bright and early on Thursday morning, caught the train down to San Diego and were checked into the hotel by noon. And we definitely lucked out this year; a pretty dern big room that had a great view of the Marina!
But there was no time to waste. The con called and we were right back out the door. Now, Id dragged ol P.E. to a Sci-Fi con in Pasadena a few months back, but that was just your run of the mill, single ballroom con, so I think she was a bit overwhelmed by the size and scope of Comicon. And it was already a madhouse! In the past, Thursdays have tended to be fairly mellow, but not this year.
Though by the same token, Saturday, while still absolutely insane, wasnt as bad as Ive seen it. Im guessing more people tried to take advantage of the relative calm of Thursday and Friday this year.
Anyway, suffice it to say that, overall, the days were all about eating, drinking and geekish merriment. Sadly we didnt really make it to any panels. I was a good little worker bee and spent most of the time on the floor scoping for the next big thing. But we did manage to attend a tribute to the owner of my local comic store who passed away not too long ago. It was really incredible to hear industry peeps and store patrons alike share their stories of a guy who literally redefined what comic shops could be. It made me feel very lucky to have stumbled into his shop those years ago.
And I did make one significant purchase. Im trying to curb the quantity of crap I accumulate and am starting to go for quality, so I picked this little gem up:
A bit battered; CGC gave it a 3.5, but the historical significance and my love for Supes unabashed Golden Age patriotism made it a special find.
So enough with my yapping. Here are a few pics:
Say hello to my little friend!
I had sooo many dirty thoughts while taking this pic:
And even more while taking this one:
Saturday we made a quick trip to Old Town and checked out the Whaley House, supposedly one of the most haunted places in America
Perhaps
But whatever the case, it made for some nice pics:
Saturday night we hooked up with a couple of my old high school buddies. She was down from LA doing press for the con and hes ex-Navy who lives with his soon-to-be fiance on Coronado. They took us to their favorite little dive piano bar that sits in a Travel Lodge of all places. Absolutely fabulous! Old oil paintings of nekkid ladies on the wall and live musical entertainment. They even let P.E. do a couple numbers! She had quite a following by the end of the night.
The scary part is, two out of three of these people have been entrusted with our nation's security!
Evil sings!
But soon it was last call, so P.E. and I retired back to our hotel room and Well Youll all have to beg and plead with her to let you see those pictures. But I think they turned out quite tasteful!
Finally, Sunday was a severely hung-over train ride back to LA. Now normally I have nothing but love for the Amtrak. Its a great value when you consider the price of gas and parking these days, and you dont have to suffer the pointless anal probes of airport security. Unfortunately our engine broke down, so what should have been a two-hour and forty-five minute ride, was closer to five two of those hours just spent sitting on the tracks.
So yeah, I was a wee bit cranky when we finally got to LA. Nonetheless, I guess it was a small price to pay for an otherwise great weekend.
So, what's goin' on? What did I miss?

The film looks intriguing, although TBH IMDB has very little light to shed, Is skinwalker a Native American term, or is it something unique to the IP? Where and when is it going to be shooting? Did you know 'skindancer' is a term coined by White Wolf for men who steal the skins of werewolves to become shapechangers themselves?
