Under pressure

Yeah, that about sums things up.

The boss took off today for a three month stint in the UK, leaving me behind to mind the store. I apologized to him in advance. For what, he asked. Youll see, was my response.

Looking on the bright side, I probably have as much job security as Ive ever had, cause itd be damned near impossible to get rid of me and train someone new in his absence. So yeah, I see a lot of two hour lunches in my immediate future. biggrin

I actually made it out to three count em THREE movies over the weekend! First off was THE DA VINCI CODE

Only Ron Howard and Akiva Goldsman could suck all the energy out of such an intriguing premise. Though, to be fair, Ive heard that the novel isnt much better. The theories are the only thing of interest here. The mystery (and I use that term very loosely), has all the subtlety and intrigue of a Nancy Drew story. I mean, they actually followed a trail of blood from clue to clue, for Gods sake!

My advice, if the subject matter interests you, just read HOLY BLOOD, HOLY GRAIL.

Next came the inevitable X-MEN 3. Overall, it was very OK. I was glad that the majority of plot threads were brought to some semblance of conclusion, but the characters were all pretty flat. What little character development there was played like a minor inconvenience between action set pieces. Thus what should have been a very emotional chapter in the saga (Ill refrain from spoilers) failed to resonate as much as it should have. Then there were the plot holes and logic gaps, but well, I think you get my point; It could have been worse, but it also could have been much MUCH better.

And finally we saw ART SCHOOL CONFIDENTIAL, a film that showed a lot of promise in its first act, but ultimately lost its way. It just never decided what it wanted to be; it bounced around between being a comedic satire, a love story, a murder mystery, a coming of age tale Actually, now that I think about it, it was a movie the Cohen Brothers should have made. They know how to strike those odd balancing acts, but here it just fell flat on its face. Too bad, as it had a lot of potential.

OK, thaz eet for now...
