I went to Isis Oasis (www.isisoasis.org) for the new ordinations on Sunday, visited my ocelot and serval friends and... brought home a baby Jungle Cat!
I've been busy.
He's 2 months old, very unusual coat that looks like a medium-length black on black with spots and stripes, but if you rub him against the grain, there's gray underneath, and white on the belly. Gorgeous kitten! What will I name him? He has those huge Jungle Cat ears with the tufts and kind of a triangular face, and his tail looks like a pipe cleaner. He's a hybrid, about 3/4 Jungle Cat and 1/4 Abyssinian (just enough domestic to make him "barely legal').
What energy this little tasmanian devil has! It's like raising a 2-year old. You don't sleep!
The other cats are having a HISSY fit - what a way to welcome their new brother! But he's very bold (and cute) with a motorboat purr, and he frankly doesn't give a damn. He's litter box trained and hardly hisses, and although he makes wonderful wild cat sounds, he's acting way more civilized than my pointy Siamese Isis, and Circe, the spotty Tonkinese mix, although he is plotting to take over the bed. (Funny how a 2-pound cat with a great attitude can threaten a couple of mad meezers - insidious little kitten; there's a method to his sweetness.) He's the only male cat in the house. Helen, the calico, is the least concerned, but she's outside a lot.
I'm trying to give the other cats extra attention. It must be the worst day in Isis' life - she hates other cats. Meezers (Siamese) are extremely possessive of their humans. But so are Jungle Cats.

Jungle Cat is such a generic-sounding term, many assume it refers to any wild cat whose habitat is the jungle, such as a Leopard, Jaguar or Ocelot. But the Jungle Cat is a distinct species and one of the largest among the smaller wild cats, weighing from 20 to 40 pounds. The Jungle Cat is the widest ranging and among the most populous species of all wild cats today. It can be found from North Africa across the Middle East into southeast Asia. It ranges north into Soviet Asia and south into the Indian subcontinent. Contrary to its name, much of the Jungle Cats habitat in these various regions is desert or arid mountain terrain.
