Sorry i haven't been able to respond to everyone yet. The cats are sick, and so are the humans, but the cats are really sick. Here are the symptoms. Please let me know if you are familiar with these. My coworker knows a dog who has them, and the vet ran every possible test and concluded that he had a weird virus. Maybe it's from some toxins being released into the air?
- anxiety, following me around, sleeping around my neck
- retreating to the closet (yeah, there's room for jokes here)
- diarrhea
- falling off of furniture, bumping into things, disorientation
- lack of initiative, lethargy, apathy, lack of autonomic reflexes, such as claw retracting
- pacing to perhaps collect and assimilate information in the environment - reminds me of an autistic person's rocking
I was insisting on taking the sickest cat to the vet, but when I called he said it wasn't an emergency; he just needed to be seen. So he has an appt. in the a.m.

But I will here.
You sound like a caring person. Cut yourself some slack, and make sure you get petted as decently as your cats. You appear quite capable of righteous purring.
If anything I've offered is useful, fun or -- Isis allowing --stimulating, why not, what the heck, add me as a friend? I'd be pleased--if not overwhelmed.
