let's weigh out those imperfections; one pound here, three pounds for that one. etcetera, etcetera...
it turns out to be one large mass, lumped together in bits and pieces that somewhat resemble a far off planet or undiscovered bit of land off some Lost-like island. useless but heavy. heaving it about is tiring and also rather useless, but what can one do? perhaps slowly roll it down a flight of stairs in some lame ass attempt at breaking it down to smaller, more manageable pieces? or maybe we can lift it and clumsily try to put it behind the sofa.
out of sight, out of mine? does that ever really work? more like the Tell-Tale heart or the Princess and the Pea. we always know it's there.
instead we lug it behind our backs, ever so often letting it get close enough to hitting the heels of our feet. a gentle reminder. hurry up now, keep up the pace. the faster we go the farther it will be, trailing us slowly.
still there, still present in our minds, but not in our immediate way. we can keep our chins up, looking forward hoping we come across a crevice in the ground where we can bury it. where it will fall and the string will break leaving it in the little ditch unraveling behind us.
or so we tell ourselves with smiling faces and lit up eyes.
