So yesterday was a terrible day. Amanda and I were the only managers (I had to close by myself for the first time even though I'm still technically training), and we have very bad luck.
-Amanda opens, a pipe breaks and creates a waterfall shooting across our patio. After hunting down a number to call, it takes the guys a couple hours to get there and fix it. Shannon (gm) didn't call her back until 4 hours later.
-Really busy, coupled with the pipe drama, prevented Amanda from going to the bank, and thus getting the change order.
Then after I get there:
-I was scheduled entirely by myself from 4 to 5. And when I say by myself, I mean not even one other person working. Luckily Amanda stayed to help me, otherwise I would've died.
-Starts getting dark and cold out... leftover water from the broken pipe starts turning into ice. We have no salt, so I tried to break it up with a shovel.
-No one was scheduled to close the front. McKenzie stayed, and I am forever indebted to her for it. I would've been there till 2 am.
Here's where it starts getting good:
-I log into the ERS system (which is where everything relating to the food is) and try to add an inventory for the night, print out the sheet and go count everything. It doesn't let me. I get a very scary screen that says EXCEPTION OCCURRED and lots of gibberish. I get this screen whenever I try to open anything with inventory, transfers, or waste. I call Shannon, who is actually with the people I would need to email about the problem. They have never seen or heard of it doing this. So Shannon tells me to use the previous night's sheet and be very, very accurate.
-So I go to count things. I'm cutting off box tops because it's annoying trying to open boxes on shelves and Shannon always gets irritated with it. In doing this, I cut open a bag of stroganoff sauce.
-In trying to pull out a box of potstickers, I break a shelf (they're held up in each corner by metal things, they popped out one by one), and have a box of tomato bisque, three boxes of tofu and a gallon of milk fall on me. The little metal things got smushed on their journey, so I had to try to un-smush them, which is... difficult.
-Finally done with fucking inventory. Go to close out the second drawer and do the deposit. Do de do, whatever. Oh wait, why isn't the safe opening? I'm using the right code... after trying my code many, many times, I am on the verge of tears, and try calling Amanda to get her code. She doesn't answer.
-Amanda washed her phone. In the laundry. Luckily I have her home phone number.
-Amanda's code doesn't work either! Mine says "Access Denied Time Lock," hers says "Invalid User ID."
-I try the number on the safe ("for help, call...") and get the after hours voice mail.
-I try calling Shannon, because she has the master code. Straight to voice mail. I'm about to cry.
-I close out what I can, but the majority of the money is locked in the safe that i can't get into. I end up putting the drawer and part of the deposit in the drink cage.
-I realize that everyone left without actually doing a lot of the things they were supposed to, so I have to do them.
We close at 9... I left at 11:30. I never want to close by myself again. Everything breaks and is wrong.
