a smattering of experiences on my first day in ny:
-i had to wake up at 8 to wait for delivery of my bedding, towels, my ipod speakers and, of course, homemade jelly from my grandma.
-but promptly at 9, the power went off and the water turned brown. it remained that way until almost 6 pm, so i basically spent the day reading the new york times by the sunlight in my roommates's room. welcome to new york, circa 1888.
-i suspect this was due to an entire intersection of bleecker street by my place that had either exploded or imploded.
-i walked to soho to meet my friends for some shopping in order to keep the economy chugging along. on the way, i passed a street that was closed down for filming. i wondered if it was lindsay lohan's new movie, because they've been filming all over ny for the past few weeks, but i didn't want to gawk. i was more excited by the fact that soho is a quick jaunt away.
-my friends wanted, of all things, chipotle for dinner. so i came to new york to eat at a mcdonald's company. i'm going to be a penny-pincher and say that $9+ for 3 tacos and a drink is a little steep for fast food. i actually liked it, but in my world tacos should be nearly free.
-we met up with my rat-tailed friend andy d and ventured over to the kgb bar, which is on my growing list of things to do in ny. we drank, appropriately enough, manhattans. i think i expected something darker, smokier and more sinister. something appropriate for espionage.
-finally we went to b bar for a dance party hosted be rat-tailed andy d's friends avenue d, starring debbie d and daphne d. some girl randomly sat down next to us and chose # 37 for her dance contest entry number. we talked about it, and it seems like she is a 37 obsessive. i basically accept that 37 is all over my life. she got wide-eyed and thinks it's all meaningful and wanted me to agree with her. so basically there is another thirtyseven here that is even more thirtyseven than this thirtyseven.
-i do not like M.I.A., although everyone else does.
