So.....
My ears are still ringing from a kick-ass show last night at Beat Kitchen. I always worry about whether people are gonna turn up to shows, and as we were getting nearer to the doors opening, there were still only a few people kicking around. Then, as if by magic, while I was sweating my balls off in the bathroom in the basement (putting on my makeup I hasten to add), everybody seemed to appear outta nowhere.
The place filled up pretty quickly, so I was VERY happy about that.
The Gravetones went on first, I love those guys. Not only are they great friends of mine, but they are awesome musicians, and a great all round slab of ghoulish entertainment. They go from rock n' roll one minute to punk the next but always maintaining that zombie style. Even after busting a string on the bass (and having no spares lol) they still pounded through their set, now THATS rock n' roll baby! A song that is fast becoming a favorite with fans and newbies alike is 'Ron Jeremy', the song that is 'to him, for him and about him' - as Scary Larry puts it. Great big cock and hair on his back indeed sir.....
Thanks to Scary Larry, Joe, Brad and Jimmy for, as always, being an awesome bunch of fiends.
After a record breakdown and set up The Massacres were up. I was fortunate enough to use Dr CHUDs wireless mic, which was a bit of a blessing as space was a premium onstage (because of the drum rig for the X-Ward.) So we rattled through our set, and actually DIDNT fuck up our Misfits cover *shock*
We got a good reception, and with it being an all ages show, I saw a lot of new faces, which is always good. As usual, BJ threw his upright around as if it were nothing, Mickey blasted away on the six-string, and Kevin pounded thoses drums as if they had slept with his mom... I would like to mention a new fan we have, his name is Alex, and is 8 years old! he came wearing a Massacres shirt! He HAS to be our youngest fan, and is one cool cat, and is totally adorable!
I gave him a Misfits book so he could get CHUDs autograph. It was Alex's first ever gig, and he loved it! here's to you buddy! (we dedicated a song to him as well!).
Then, the moment we had all been waiting for, Al-X, Fish and Sal Bee took to the stage looking like freshly exhumed corpses and started to play an kick ass intro, but where's the Doc? the unsuspecting members of the crowd would suddenly get pushed outta the way as the abominable Dr CHUD slithered around the audience before making his way onto the stage. The bloodbath begins! Dr Chud is certainly making his mark yet again on the horrorpunk scene and is fast becoming a force to be reckoned with. the train is outta control, and the brakes aint working! CHUD and crew played a great selection of songs, not only songs from the new album 'Diagnosis for Death', like 'Mommy Made Love To An Alien', 'Goodbye', 'Blue Skin', but he also played some from his period in The Misfits - 'Hate the Living, Love the Dead', 'Lost In Space', 'Die Monster Die' etc. Also thrown in for good measure were songs from his old band Sacred Trash - 'Wings Of The World' and my fave, 'Walking Dead' being among them. There were plenty of sing-a-long moments too, CHUD and Sal got a pit going, much to the delight of the fans! The overall feeling was fantastic, and you could tell Doc and the boys were enjoying themselves (and CHUD was certainly enjoying himself being revived by the nurse!
). So, as with all good things, the show came to a close (far too quickly!) and the crew finished with 'Bury You Alive', which got a ton of people up onto stage to sing along. Fish pulled Alex onto stage, but with him only being short, could'nt reach the mic, or see, so I hopped up and picked him up for his first real slice of stage life! CHUD threw him over his shoulder as the song came to a close, which I think made Alex's night.
I got a few good bruises, and elbowed in the head twice, but it was bloody worth it! Here is to CHUD, Sal, Al-X and Fish! thanks for coming back to Chi-town, I hope you enjoyed yourselves, and don't forget, you'll always have a place to stay (and do your laundry haha!)
