there is just something that fills the soul after going to a charity event. i do a lot of domestic violence advocacy here in charlotte. and my charity has just maintained over the last few years. we have raised almost a quarter of a million dollars for the local shelter since our inception in 2007, but we have just averaged a $30k donation each year. so it is always good when we can get our name in front of other, more famous, faces. the best way to do this is to network at other DV events.
Yesterday was one of those events. just a super cool outing. recently, steve smith, wide receiver for the carolina panthers has gone on record about growing up in an abusive household where his mother was a victim of domestic violence. much like my own. for him to put on a bowling event to "strike out" domestice violence was just awesome. sincerely nice guy. and for some reason, i didn't expect other players from the team to be there. but a bunch of the lineman, a handful of running backs, hell even the kicker was there... a few of them were huge. TE greg olsen is a beast. but the rest of them just looked like a normal fit guy you would see on the street. crazy.
anyway, it just fills the soul to be able to help...
