Granted, I'm not rooting for people to die and I do feel bad for those who get sick through not fault of their own. It's the ignorant, prideful fuck sticks that I'm done giving two shits about. The anti-science, anti-vax, "blood of jesus" assholes who are putting everyone else at risk, those people can all go fuck right off the face of the Earth.
By now, many of you may have seen the pictures from some high school in Georgia that had their first day back this morning. I'm not looking to argue over whether it's too early to open schools or if schools who choose to wait should be punished. It's such a mixed bag of unknown factors, that you can have one "expert" say one thing and another "expert" will say the opposite. Politicizing a fucking pandemic is pathetic and it has only drained my faith in humanity that much more.
What gets me about those pictures from Georgia is how you don't see a single mask in the group. Yes, the virus isn't as bad for teens as it is for older folks, but am I to assume that not a single one of those students have grandparents or any relatives that at in the age range most at risk? Aren't most teens desperate to be taken seriously as young adults? Given the previous school year was cut short and most of this summer has been impacted, one would think that these kids would have enough sense to at least wear their masks if they just had to take such a large group picture.
I don't know. Maybe the school has a policy requiring masks and the kids took their coverings off just for the picture. Still, I won't be shocked or saddened if we hear of a sudden spike in COVID cases in that town within a few weeks. I mean, how many stories have there been so far about this happening? It could be a billion stories and that still wouldn't stop people from be shocked when they find themselves in the middle of such a report.
Are we sure that the Coronavirus doesn't also affect common sense or have we all been this stupid for awhile now? Either way, I'm not clutching my hands in anticipation of hearing people have died, but I can't say I'll really give much of a damn if they do. Call me a pathetic horrible monster and hate me all you want, but I'm done normalizing selfish stupidity and audacious disregard for others.
