I was talking to someone the other day, who voted for Trump in 2016 and will vote for him again this year, even though he does admit that Trump is an asshole. I absolutely hate Trump and feel like he has done a lot of damage to the country as well help nurture a culture of hatred and ignorance. I can't blame Trump for every single problem in the world, even though Trump and his supporters have no problem blaming everyone else for everything. I feel like another four years of Trump will certainly help push this country beyond the point of repair, but I am probably just an angry and bitter alarmist.
In any case, during the discussion I had recently, I was told that I can go ahead and dislike Trump as much as I want, but whomever is sitting in the White House isn't really worth getting mad at. Essentially, the real problem lies in Congress with all these career politicians on both sides who can't get their shit together and actually fix anything. The person I spoke to, almost went as far as to suggest that both sides really don't want to solve anything, because that would mean they wouldn't have a job. Without getting too conspiracy theory-ish, the person basically said that the government doesn't want to actually make life better for us because it's easier to control us that way. He also talked about the supposed "coin shortage" we're having during the pandemic is really just an effort to force us all into using cards instead, so our purchasing habits can be traced.
I won't delve too far into this guy's personal views on things and skip to the point. He feels that Congress is where the government fails us the most and to keep us from noticing, the President serves as a lightning rod for all of the public's hate. He told me that, even if Trump does win again this year, he'll be gone in four years and we'll just get another idiot in the White House, but all the same assholes will be in Congress. I expressed concern over how Trump's most insane supporters have behaved and how they might react if Trump loses. I am fully prepared to see stories about the most evangelical and gun-crazy Trumpsters shooting people who voted for Biden, because these people do believe Trump was sent here by god to save America.
I was told that that sort of thinking is flawed. That stories like this are manufactured to scare people, just like the stories about Democrats wanting to take away our guns. "None of that is ever going to happen.", he said. It's all just more distraction from the incompetence of Congress. What I should be worried about is the influence of the extremely far Left or Right politicians out there. The Liberals who want to give away the country for free and discourage people from knowing how to take care of themselves. The Conservatives that want to control every aspect of our lives through our economy. This guy can't stand any politicians, but he definitely is more Republican than Democrat. He did vote for Obama the first time around, but he would have prefered someone like Herman Cain instead.
If I have a point, and if this post doesn't violate some random rule and gets removed, would be to ask who agrees that complaining about the POTUS is pointless? Do you think that a President like Trump shouldn't be worried about at all, no matter how he acts? Do you think that Congress needs term limits in order to curb the sense of complacency many career politicians get?
I'm not crazy about voting for Biden nor was I that happy about voting for Hillary. However, I do know that I didn't need 4 years of Trump to know he would be a disaster. I don't care that he is a Republican. I care that he is a narcissistic and pathological liar. I care that he shows no capacity to show real sincerity or concern for anyone other than himself. I care that he has embolden a movement of apathetic ignorance that will not go away, even if he loses in November and ultimately dies in prison. He's an embarrassment to the country and a disgrace to the office of President. He has legitimized such awful behavior that, in all honesty, it gives me pause when considering the idea of starting a family. I have no idea how I could look a child in the eye and explain how a total piece of shit like Trump is able to keep getting away with the crap he does.
I also am not happy with those useless politicians who can't accomplish anything, other than preventing anything from changing. Again, I am a pessimistic alarmist, I just don't understand where the middle ground lies. Either this shit is important and worth raising awareness over or it is all meaningless. If the President isn't worth paying attention to, then why would those who say that now also have been likely to be the same who rode Obama's ass for 8 years straight? Why am I wrong for being upset about Trump's influence on the courts or his aversion to science, but everyone who lost their minds over Obama wearing a tan suit is just fine?
I wish I could document every single instance of people, who are Trump's most fervent supporters, telling everyone else not to worry about the Presidency, just so I can throw it back in their face, the instant those people start complaining about President Biden. All I take away from this is that most people are such opinionated assholes, that this is never going to not be a problem. It makes sense then that we have politicians who are screwing us over all of the time and we don't even know it. We can recognize a problem exists, but we waste all of our time pointing the finger and not much time doing anything to fix it. That's how I explain someone like Trump winning the election. I almost feel like, if Trump wins again, this country deserves whatever horrible bullshit it gets in return.
