So, late on September 11th i began a tattoo on my friend Dustin in memoriam of our mutual friend Nathan Comes who was killed in a car crash one year ago that day. The design came from an actual drawing from Nate's own hands. I was a little nervous about doing a tattoo with so many scratchy lines and all tha shit, but it came out better than i had thought.
Now keep in mind, i am a Body Piercer, not a tattoo artist, and though i have been working in tattoo shops for the better part of 8 years and have a good understanding of the technical aspects of HOW to tattoo, i have only done a very small number of tattoos, and never anything this big or complicated. But Dustin insisted I do the tattoo because i was Nates friend, and he wanted it done by not only a friend of his, but a friend of Nate's as well. So he picked me. God only knows why.
Normally when a friend of mine asks me to tattoo them, I ask them to build a deck on my house, do my taxes, and/or neuter my cat. At this point they usually reply with " I'm not a Carpenter/Accountant/Veterinarian!" to which i reply "I am not a tattoo artist!" but in this situation, i could not say no. Not only was this a way for him to do something in Nate's Honor and Memory, but an opportunity for me to do something as well as a nod to my fallen friend.
May you ever be somewhere better than this place, and may i meet you there when i too leave this dreary existance. I love ya buddy.
