Tomorrow (actually, in a few hours from now) I'll be heading back down to San Luis Obispo. Gonna try and whip out the rest of my scholastic career in two quarters. Go me. No really, go. Freaking go already.
I've got friends working on PhDs, starting new teaching jobs, in the south pacific with the Peace Corps, volunteering at hospitals in central america.. and here I am, in the armpit of California, showering grown men and wiping their asses to boot.
Well, dammit. I keep telling myself that "this is the last straw" and every time I say it, another piece of straw pops up and dances the macarena around my catatonic body.
So. I'm not going to say it. Things will go differently. They will.
When I had my car accident, I was told that the cd player kept playing, up until they rolled the car back over. I don't remember hearing anything after my memories of the events went fuzzy. Which is good, because those cds (most of which happened to have been my present favorites) would have then brought back the trauma whenever I tried to listen to them.
Anyway, I realized tonight that the cd I was listening to right before the crash was Ani DiFranco's Evolve. It hit me just as I was passing a car on the highway (which is what I most likely was doing to cause the accident) as I was listening to Slide. Fortunately I didn't panic or go into shock and flip over again, because there were canals on both sides of the road filled with peat, which happens to be quite flammable.
Anyway, as a little treat to myself, I decided to pull out the cds out of the cd cassette that was in the changer at the time of the accident. Here they are, in no particular order of significance:
Ani DiFranco : Evolve
Groove Collective : Live in Brooklyn (discs 1 & 2)
tool : Aenima
Skerik's Syncopated Taint Septet: Live (?)
Alkaline Trio : Mella's Mix
Throwing Muses : Limbo
Jacob Fred Jazz Odyssey : All is One
