Tonight, I did something beautiful for a girl, after having done many beautiful things for her already.
And nothing mattered more than this, because tonight I let her go.
Because if I've learned anything, I've learned this:
Life is short, and love is long,
And at the end of the day, a caged bird is yours only because of the cage.
It's when your lover comes back to you that you know that she's actually yours.
Lovers aren't property, or even a gift; a lover is a lover, and love is not a cage until your lover closes the door behind her.
And then it's just cozy.
EDIT
And until then, I won't throw away a friend.
But now it's back into the war.

Turns out that I was freeing more than one caged bird with that gesture.
