And now for something completely sober.
Thank you to everyone both online and in person who has talked to me about my writing it's all appeciated. I like to think I'm honest enough with myself to know what my strengths and weaknesses are as a writer (apart from poor spelling and terrible grammar). I enjoy writing dialogue and characters, I love coming up with plots and I know my genre conventions and how to avoid them. I do however absolutely suck at writing description, writing in accents, dialects and coming up with names for things. Also I suffer from having lots of ideas but never actually writing them down so they get lost in the far reaches of my puny human brain. So I may be sticking them in his journal a little more to get feedback from you good good people.
Perhaps the best way to get past the description problem is to write comic scripts and plays. I did write a play awhile back I may even stick it in here one day I go and work on it now and again, tightening up the dialogue, that kind of thing, it's about a Middle England Vicar with something nasty in the basement.
I do have an idea for an ongoing comic series that is based on the first part of a story I put up in this journal a few weeks ago. It can be summed up as a Film Noir set in Purgatory. I've got the mechnics of the world figured out quite well, the way it would work is that it would be a series of short stories exploring the way the world works through the eyes of the main character it would also have a main story/mystery arc that would weave throughout the series. It is something with a very definite beginning, middle and end. Part of the idea behind it is too look at a (for lack of a better word) cosmic concepts through the very gritty and downbeat filter of noir.
Of course I really wish I could draw as that would make this a lot easier.
In other news, how cool is this video?
Answer: VERY FUCKING COOL.
