First and foremost there is Liverpool FC, many here will call them a soccer team, I say football. Raised 12 miles from the stadium (Anfield) and living there for thirty two years, Liverpool have and will always be my favourite football team.
Since the age of four I have followed them, gone to games, watched them on TV, getting excited and frustrated with them in equal measure. We enjoy a fierce rivalry with Everton, also from the City of Liverpool, it is always a very heated game but does still retain in most areas a friendly atmosphere. I am not really as occupied with Everton (possibly like most Liverpool fans) as I am with Manchester United, for me the real main rival, I hate the team and wish them nothing but ill, but it must be acknowledged they have bested us for the last twenty years.
But Liverpool remain the most successful team in English Football history winning eighteen league titles and five Champions Leagues amongst other accolades.
In winning the champions league you have to beat the continent of Europe has to offer and we have done so in 1977, 1978, 1981, 1984, and 2005. The most recent was one of the greatest comebacks of all time. Liverpool were losing to AC Milan 3-0 at halftime and came back to 3-3 and eventually won on dreaded penalties 3-2.
Speaking of teams that were at their best in the 80s , I also support San Francisco 49ers in the NFL and because I lived there for two years I support the College football team Nebraska Cornhuskers.
All the teams may test the strength of my heart at times but they will always have a place within.
