Assorted Thanksgiving thoughts:
- I've never really read blogs before joining SG, but I find your blogs to be fascinating and inspiring. Perhaps my own will become more interesting in time.
- I'm really getting into the whole culture and aesthetic of tattoos, and that's new for me. Earlier tonight, though, I visited the Body Modification Ezine site for the first time and it really freaked me out - not the tattoos, but the other, more hard-core stuff there. The amount of pure gore was shocking and somewhat disturbing. I came to the conclusion, though, that people are interested in tattoos and "body modification" for many, different reasons. It seems like an obvious conclusion, but I had to articulate it in order to begin to place myself in relation to everything that I was seeing and, in some cases, to differentiate my tastes and attractions from things that, frankly, scared me.
- I had a mixed Thanksgiving experience: good at first, tougher as it went along. I got depressed for no reason around 4pm (or perhaps because that's when I visited the Body Modification Ezine) , then managed to snap out of it with the help of my wife and a good movie: The Kids are All Right (2010)
- In figuring out why I'm interested in tattoos: I think that it's the artistry and beauty. Also, the primal aspect, balance of the Dionysian with the Apollinarian, an element of protest and self-differentiation. I've never fully developed some of the aesthetic impulses in my life, except through my writing which, because it is academic, has been restrained. I look forward to developing further in this direction.
-I'm thankful for the effort that people here have put into their photos and blogs. I'll try to be a contributor and not just a "collector," as a way of expressing my thanks. Have a good evening everyone.
