On-Line Dating: continued
I promised I would update this blog as I got further into my on-line dating experience. I am here to report that so far I am having a positive experience. Although many of the women I have been contacting have not replied in kind, I am finding that quite a few women are contacting me. It is somewhat flattering to know that one is desired if only for my good looks.
I have spent a great deal of energy corresponding with several promising candidates. I've gotten particularly intimate with one woman with each of us sharing intimate details of lives. After a month or more of corresponding back and forth I decided it was time to meet some of my correspondents. Several of my dates have come outside of the personals. My first date was with a woman with whom I started up a conversation on MySpace.com. We met and hung out at arts festival in Somerville one Saturday afternoon. This was a month ago. I felt lukewarm about my encounter and neither one of us have contacted each other. My second date - two weeks ago - was through Nerve.com and we got together at a pub in Cambridge for some drinks. We must have talked for two hours straight before we ran out of stream. Our many topics of conversation included why we were using the personals, our relationship history, bad date stories, and the usual chit-chat. We both agreed that we wanted to date widely and generally explore the field for a time before jumping into any relationships. We parted in good company and said we'd keep in touch. My third date -four days ago - was with a divorced woman whom I had met through Yahoo Personals. Previous to our meeting, we had corresponded on a regular basis, each of us revealing our totured histories, our crimes and our misdemeanors. We spent several hours walking and talking through downtown Boston, the Esplanade and then on to Starbucks for coffee. I felt quite comfortable with her but left thinking of her as a potential friend rather than lover. My fourth date - tonight - my favorite date yet, came about through a doctor friend. He knew that I was seriously dating again and also knew of my attraction to Asian women. He asked a colleague at work if she was interested in meeting me. She wasn't involved at the moment and ascented to idea. I had a perfect idea for our first date. I invited her to a showing of Shakespeare on the Boston Common. The event has everything that I think makes for a memorable date: a picnic on a blanket underneath the stars, attendance at a cultural event, and an opportunity to present myself in the best possible light. It was truly a blind date in that I had never seen her before. She was as attractive as my friend had said.and very demure. We had a good hour to talk before the play started and covered our respective histories. She hadn't been dating since she had broke up with her ex from a year or so ago. Of course we spoke of our careers, which is always a sore point with me as I am in between jobs and temping. She was quite sympathetic to my situation and not at all put off by it as some women might be. We ended the evening on a positive note with me asking her out again and her responding by giving me her phone number.
And I'm not done yet. I have another date tomorrow night with a woman I met through an activity group I've been going to (MeetinBoston.com) and one more date the following Thursday. I have done more dating in the last several weeks than I have done in the last several years. I am here to say that there is a reason for optimism so don't give up just yet. I will post updates on this blog from time to time.
