Howdy Ho SG friends,
Hope you're all doing well. First off, as always, a big thanks to those kind souls for their support on my last blog. I haven't been on here since January, as I've been waiting for things to settle down before blogging about it.
Last blog I told you that I was going for surgery at the end of January. Unfortunately that was postponed because I came down with a monstrous head cold the weekend before my surgery date. I ended up going for the surgery at the end of February.
As usual, date of admittance was the day before surgery, but when I arrived, I was told there were no beds and had to wait in the day room. Lots of others were waiting too, and it took ages for us all to be allocated a bed in the ward. My time of admittance was supposed to be 3pm, but it was after 8pm before I was finally allocated a bed. By that time I'd seen the anesthetist and a junior doctor had gone over a consent questionnaire with me, but I hadn't seen the surgeon. I was told it was too late, and the surgeon would see me in the morning.
Sadly I never got to see the specialist who was performing my surgery, as he sent one of his underlings up to the ward to tell me what the surgery would entail. I guess he was there when I was wheeled into the operating theater, but I didn't recognise him with his scrubs on...
They only removed the epidydimus, instead of the whole testicle. This was the lesser of several evils and meant I didn't have to worry about hormone replacement treatment in future. As expected, there was a lot of post surgery pain, swelling and bruising. It was so bruised, I now know why some people call balls plums!
It's gotten better though and touch wood I'm free of the pain I had prior to surgery. Still depressed though, because it was more than just the pain that was getting me down. I'm on a lower dose of Sertraline now, and I'm feeling a little better for that. I'm getting up earlier and am getting to sleep earlier too. The higher dose kept me awake until 3 - 4am and I was getting up around lunchtime. On the lower dose I'm getting to sleep 1 - 2am and getting up between 9 and 10am.
Therapy's going okay and my therapist thinks that Cognitive Behavioral Therapy might help me too. He's not trained in CBT, but is keen for me to try it in addition to my sessions with him.
All in all, things are good. I don't need a walking stick to help me get around anymore, which is great. That's one thing sorted, and once I get my head straight I'll be on the job hunt.
That's about it for this blog, but before I go, the following beautiful ladies deserve more love:
