Howdy Ho SG friends,
First off (as always), a big thank you to those kind souls who left support on my last blog. You are the best friends a guy could wish for and your support means more than you know. Thanks again.
Sorry for the gap between blogs, I've been waiting until I had some actual news to blog about.
Sad news first of all. My uncle died last Friday, following liver failure. At least he's not suffering anymore, and the funeral was yesterday. I wasn't fit to travel the length of Britain to attend the funeral (I'm in Shetland and they're in Alderney in the Channel Islands), but I organized a wreath to be sent there.
Dad phoned last night to tell me it was a lovely service and there was a great turn out, as my uncle was well loved by everyone on Alderney. Even better news was that Dad hadn't fallen off the wagon at the wake, he had a couple of shandies and went home. Very proud of him for this, as I know it was a tough time for him, and with him being an alcoholic I feared he'd fall off the wagon again. Very proud of Dad for restraining himself, as he has major health issues himself.
In other news, I heard from Aberdeen regarding surgery, but it wasn't the news I was hoping for. I had been expecting a letter confirming I had a consultation with the specialist, as I'd asked to be referred back to him. Instead, I received a letter telling me I had an appointment for surgery on October 21st, with a surgeon I've never even heard of!
I phoned ARI (Aberdeen Royal Infirmary), to find out what had happened. Turns out I'm on the waiting list to see the specialist, but because there's a long waiting list they thought the surgery could be done sooner by a random surgeon... After the disastrous operation I had done by a random surgeon (who hadn't even been told my medical history, her superior simply told her to perform the op!) a few years ago, I said "Thanks for the offer, but no thanks.".
I don't want to go through the same palava as last time, especially with a surgeon who doesn't know my medical history and is assuming it's going to be straight forward surgery. That's why I asked to be referred back to the specialist, because he's been the only doctor (out of the many different ones I've seen over the past few years) who's actually read my history in full and knew what he was talking about. Most other doctors skim over my history and make assumptions, resulting in each doctor I've seen telling me something completely different...
So, to cut a long story short, I asked them to cancel the surgery they'd scheduled for me and asked them to keep me on the waiting list to see the specialist. I have lots of questions prior to surgery, and he should be able to answer my queries.
In the meantime my mental health has been a bit worse after my second therapy session. My therapist had me unearth one of my worst memories, one I'd buried for 15 years. I know it's part of the therapy process, but reliving that memory has made me feel considerably worse and my self esteem has taken a major nose dive.
My next therapy session is on October 31st (Halloween), which is kind of appropriate as we'll no doubt be bringing more skeletons out of my cupboard...
In other news, we saw Sin City: A Dame to Kill For at the cinema. It was awesome and in most ways it was a prequel to the first film, although one storyline followed on from events in the first film. Highly enjoyable all-round and my only gripe was that the film was considerably shorter than the first one. I could have easily sat through another half hour... :)
Attended the monthly film quiz on Tuesday, it was our second quiz but the questions were a lot tougher this time. In one round we were expected to know US geography, as we had to work out film titles with US states in the title, and then had to match the title with the corresponding letter on the map of America at the bottom of the page. Even if you got the film title correct, but got the state location wrong you got 0 points... I didn't expect a geography lesson in a film quiz!
Anyways, we didn't do so well this time around (last time we finished 5th), this time we finished 7th. Fingers crossed we do better in next month's quiz.
Lastly, in knitting news, I finished the blanket I had started months ago. The yarn I had used had been discontinued, and it was difficult to get another ball of that colour, even from online retailers. Eventually I managed to order another ball of that yarn, so I finished the blanket last week.
I'm now working on another scarf, and here's a picture of it I took last weekend (it's larger now, but I won't share another pic until it's finished).
That's about all my news, but before I go, I'll request more love for the following beauties, their sets all merit a boatload of love!
